Donggongon is a town located about 15 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu. It is a very important town for the district of Penampang, District Police Headquarters, Penampang District Library, and the Penampang Sports Complex, are located in Donggongon.
Donggongon town also feature a popular weekly street market (or Tamu Donggongon) every Thursday and Friday, starts at 6:00 am and ends late in the evening. At Tamu Donggongon you can find all sorts of vegetables, handicrafts, food products of the villagers from the district of Penampang and from nearby district.
There are also Sabah's traditional delicacies such as Bambangan (a type of wild mango), Tuhau (a ginger-like plant, mixed with lime juice onion and chillies), butod ( known as sago worms) and lihing (rice wine).
As you stroll around the Tamu, you can enjoy the sound of the beautiful ethnic beats of gongs (a petcussion- like musical instrument) played by a group of gong players.
Donggongon also boasts the longest shopping mall in Sabah, Megalong Shopping Complex, which was opened in the year 2010.
